Whats on for April?

April brings about the start of the BAS season.  Important dates to remember for this month are:

  • 21st April – Quarterly PAYG Instalment Activity Statement is Due
  • 21st April – March Monthly Activity Statement is Due
  • 28th April – January – March Quarterly Statement is Due
  • 28th April – Quarterly Instalment Notice is Due
  • 28th April – January – March Quarterly Superannuation Contributions are Due

Also this month I am concentrating on working with Business Owners in the Hospitality Industry.  The Hospitality Industry is one of the busiest industries around.  They are open 7 days a week, some times for up to 18 hours a day.  Bookkeeping in the Hospitality Industry is one of the toughest things to do.

Businesses within the hospitality industry are:

  • Hotel
  • Cafés
  • Restaurants
  • Catering companies
  • Milk bars
  • Wedding / function venues
  • Takeaway shops
  • Gaming venues
  • Just to name a few

Accurate Reports is a big thing in the Hospitality Industry, tracking Cost of Goods Reports, making sure your food and beverages expenses are not too high.  Tracking Wages to make sure they aren’t too high compared to Sales.  Net Profit, Gross Profit and many more.  To stay on top of the game in the Hospitality Industry you need to track your figures carefully and therefore having accurate reports is the way to go.

If you are in the Hospitality Industry make sure you have a great Bookkeeper who can help you with those reports.

Payroll & the Mechanical Industry

As mentioned last week I am concentrating on meeting with Business Owners in the Mechanical Industry.  This week I wanted to talk to you about Payroll for the Mechanical Industry.

Every award for every industry has different quirks, so today I just wanted to list for you the different allowances that are listed under the Vehicle Manufacturing, Repair Services and Retail Award

  • Leading Hand
  • Inspectors
  • Tool – tradespersons
  • tool – apprentice
  • Meals
  • Traveling Time
  • Transfer of Employment
  • Accommodation and meals
  • First Aid Qualifications
  • Driver
  • Confined spaces
  • Dirty Work
  • Hot places
  • Wet places
  • Glass or slag wool
  • Handling garbage
  • Livestock transport
  • Slicking with carbon black and hand spraying tyres
  • Height money
  • Large Tyre Fitting – Offisite
  • Boiler House
  • Electric generators or dynamos
  • Fork-lifts or cranes
  • Foundry
  • Thursday/Friday additional amount
  • District allowances

For the everyday mechanic who has a few staff members, reading this list will cause them lots of stress.  In fact employing staff causes them stress.  Thats where having a good bookkeeper can help, even if you just get them to come and set up your payroll, make sure your paying your staff right and to train you how to pay people through your accounting program, they are worth the investment.

So if you know of someone who has a business in the mechanical industry then I would like to talk to them.  If you are unsure what business is in this industry the list is below.

Business Owners in the Mechanical Industry, these may include:

  • Motor Vehicle Mechanics
  • Diesel Mechanics
  • Auto Electricians
  • Airconditioning Mechanics
  • Radiator / Cooling Mechanics
  • Tyre dealers
  • Suspension mechanics
  • Smash repairers and panel beaters
  • Spare parts suppliers and dealers
  • Automotive paint suppliers and restoration services

Bookkeeping and the Mechanical Industry

As mentioned last week I am concentrating on meeting with Business Owners in the Mechanical Industry.  There are usually two types of Business Owners in this industry… Ones that love working on cars but see their business as a Business, doing their bookwork, employing staff and running a tight ship… and the others are ones that love working on cars and couldn’t give two hoots about book work.

Now you may think that I would like to talk to the Business Owner that doesn’t give two hoots about their bookwork, but in actual fact I want to talk to the Business Owner who does their bookwork (they don’t have to enjoy it, but they do it anyway), they may or may not employ staff but they understand the importance of running a tight ship. They like to be in control of their business, but don’t have a great deal of time.

I want to discuss with them how I can help them to run a tight ship, while they stay in control, but regain some family time, or time to spend on the hobby cars, going to car shows or racing their beloved cars…

If I have just described someone you know of or you know of someone who is a Small Business Owner in The Mechanical industry or if you have a client who is in the Mechanical industry OR you are a Small Business owner of a Mechanical firm, I would like you to refer Dynamic Bookkeeping to them.

If you are unsure of what type of business is in this industry, please see below…

I have a few clients in this industry and their bookkeeping makes them feel more swamped than their actual work.  The amount of purchase receipts that pass through their hands is extraordinary, not to mention the job cards and appointment bookings etc.
If you know of someone who is a Small Business Owner in this industry or if you have a client who is in this industry, I would love to talk to them OR if you work in this industry or own a business in this industry, I would love to talk to you.

Sometimes people just need a little bit of a hand with their bookkeeping every now and then.

This week I went out to a client who I normally go to on a monthly basis. For this client I just do the bank reconciliations, his BAS lodgement and his Super Lodgement each time I am there. Between him and his wife they do the invoicing, receipting, bill payments and entering of all the expenses. But early December his wife had their third child and December was also his busiest month which lead to January being flat out as well. Now although this is all good for him and his wife, for me who needed to bank rec it wasn’t so good.

Half of the data entry wasn’t done this time as they had been so busy. So I stayed and got all the data entry done for December so I could bank rec and do his BAS and Super. I am also sending out one of my girls next week to catch up on all the January data entry and filing all his paperwork so it doesn’t get lost. This is a one off service we are offering to him so that he doesn’t fall behind in his book work, which could jeopardise his compliance lodgements. He will feel more in control of everything and his wife won’t feel so overwhelmed with the amount of work she has to do.

If you know someone who just needs help getting back on track then tell them to give the girls at Dynamic Bookkeeping a call.

Also I would love it if you left a comment below when you have felt out of control with your bookkeeping and how having a bookkeeper come in and help as a once off would have helped you.
